Boonsboro - CLARENCE A. "Muggs" COSENS JR., 72, of 9301 Stottlemyer Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Washington County Hospital. Born March 31, 1926, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clarence A. and Mildred Springer Cosens Sr.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Marie Zepp Cosens, in 1988.

He had worked as a brakeman, flagman and conductor for Western Maryland Railroad in Hagerstown, retiring in 1986 after 30 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1136 in Brunswick, Md.

He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca J. Hoover and Patricia Ann Rheam, both of Hagerstown; four sons, Clarence A. Cosens III, Michael B. Cosens and Jeffery A. Cosens, all of Boonsboro, and Dennis Wayne Cosens of Smithsburg; two sisters, Jane D. Faulder of Boonsboro and Carol C. Cosens of Passaic, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory L. Cosens; a sister, Betty V. Cosens; and a brother, Theodore C. Cosens.

Graveside services were held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown; arrangements were handled by the Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro.
