Maurine Ruth Fitzgerald Birkedahl "Nonie", passed away peacefully on February 20, 2014.

Nonie was born in Durango, Colorado, on February 16, 1929. She grew up in Durango and Grand Junction, moving to Denver at the age of 16.

While attending Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, Nonie met her future husband, Walter J. Birkedahl. They were married on June 16, 1949. They had three children, Walt, David, and Michelle.

Nonie is survived by Walt and Michelle, seven of her eight grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

After her children were grown, Nonie completed her Masters Degree in Social Work, and was the founding social worker and manager of LDS Hospital's Pain Clinic. She also published two books: Habit Control Workbook, and Older and Wiser. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Nonie served as a practicing psychotherapist in Grand Junction and Utah.

She and her husband, Walt, also had a music studio, where she taught piano and violin. Nonie had a wonderful sense of humor and will always be remembered for her positive influence that touched many lives.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, G Road Chapel, 2542 G Road, in Grand Junction, Colorado, at 11 :00 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2014.
