Henry H. Melton was born in Pulaski county, Ky., March 14, 1818. When but nine months of age he came to Indiana with his parents and settled in Lawrence county. He lived all his life in the immediate vicinity of Owensburg, where he gained many warm friends. He was married to Prudence Dishman, Nov. 29, 1839. To this union nine children, five sons and four daughters, were born, eight of whom survive him. He was a kind and affectionate father, a firm believer in the Christian faith, and a patriot of many sterling qualities. He departed this life, April 6, 1901, with bright hopes of immortal life. The funeral services were conducted at the home of the deceased, April 7, 1901, by Rev. C.S. Whitted, pastor of the M.E. church, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery at Owensburg, Ind.
