Mr. Thomas Clark Benefield, 90, of Moss Point, Miss., died Aug. 15, 2004, in Pascagoula, Miss. He was born Sept. 3, 1913 in Pecan, Miss., and a lifelong resident of the Moss Point area. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Edna Lynd Benefield, who died on May 12, 2004; his parents Bob and Georgiana Benefield; three brothers Herman, Herbert and Elmer Benefield; and a sister, Della Mae Benefield.
Mr. Benefield was retired from International Paper Co. after working at the Moss Point Mill for 42 years, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Society. He faithfully served as a trustee, a member of the Administrative Board and the Men's Bible Sunday School Class of Kreole United Methodist Church, as long as he was physically able. He was a member of Moss Point F&AM Lodge No. 202. Gardening, raising vegetables and flowers, working in his yard, and catching fish, shrimp and oysters to share with family and friends gave him much pleasure, as did spending time with his family who fondly called him Deda.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Carroll Robertson and Ann and Ronald Bailey all of Moss Point; grandsons, Joseph (Connie) Robertson of Knoxville, Tenn., Christopher (Darlene) Bailey of Escatawpa, Thomas (Debra) Robertson of Pensacola, Fla., Mitchell (Christine) Bailey of Montgomery, Ala., and Brad (Rebecca) Robertson of Vancleave; his great grandchildren, Matthew (Amanda) Robertson, Micheal Bailey, Nicholas Robertson, Jourdan Robertson, Andrew Robertson, Kyle Robertson, Philip Robertson, Mark Robertson, Brooke Bailey, Amber Bailey, Tyler Bailey, Natalie Johnson, John Cooper and James Cooper; his great-great granddaughter, Shelby Robertson; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Don (Phillis) Lynd of Eight Mile, Ala., with whom he shared his heart and home.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at Kreole United Methodist Church with funeral starting at 10 a.m. from the church, with the Rev. Roy Barlow, the Rev. Hollis Howell, and the Rev. John Tucker officiating. Burial will be in the Orange Grove Cemetery in Orange Grove, Miss.
