Born in Co. Fermanagh, Ireland to Acheson Black and Jane Kelso.
Arrived in New Zealand c1861aboard the 'Pladda' (Early Settlers Museum, Dunedin). Another report from the Early Settlers Association in a newspaper article of short biographies [Biographical Notes of Settlers of the First Decade. THE OLD IDENTITY.
