Harvey B. Ashley

1938 - 2012

Harvey B. Ashley, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, the oldest known person with Down Syndrome, died peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at the age of 74.

Born in Russellville, Ind., on July 20, 1938, he was the son of Clyde and Clara Ashley. He moved to our area 32 years ago.

For ten years, Harvey was employed as a candy maker at the family's business, 'The Ranch Sweet Shop', in Salem.

Harvey loved old country western music and baseball. He collected baseball cards and had an excellent memory for game statistics. Harveys family and friends will remember him as being a very fun and mischievous prankster. He admired women and always called them his girlfriends.

He will be remembered by his cousin, Peter Pesh of Salem and several other cousins.

Harvey is further survived by his extended family, Jim and Melody Kraai, and their children and grandchildren including, Aaron (Lindsay) Kraai and their children, Luca and Miabella, Adam (Tiffany) Kraai, and their son, Vincent. Survivors also include, Mona (Tom) McDermott and their children, Angela (Eric) Schreier and their son, Bowen, Michael (Lindsey) McDermott and their daughter, Lilyana and Steve McDermott.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church, 7400 39th Avenue. Private interment will be held in St. Adalberts Catholic Cemetery, Niles, IL. A visitation for Harvey will be held at the church on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the Mass.
