Mrs Mattie Sular Castleberry, 64, former Longview resident, died early Monday morning in Kahn Memorial Hospital in Marshall. Mrs. Castleberry had been ill for many months at her home near Karnack.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Rains and Talley Funeral Home, Marshall, with the Rev. E. Leo Palmer, pastor of the Karnack baptist church, officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Park, Longview.
Mrs. Castleberry was a member of the Karnack Baptist church and contributed liberally toward church and many charitable projects. In the '30s Mrs. Castleberry moved to Longview where she operated the famed "Mattie's Ballroom," located on the Old Kilgore road. She later operated Palm Isle Club.
Survivors include one son, J.C. Arthur, Kilgore; two daughters-in-law Mrs, H. C. Arthur and Mrs. Henry Arthur; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Maud Beck, Seminole, Okla; Mrs. Mary Johnson, San Jose, Calif; one brother Roy Miley, Los Gauda, Calif;
Pallbearers will be: Clarence Fason, Cliff Corley, Sam Ford, Ed Ford, Will Power, and Ward Dorothy.
