Mary Lou Goon, 89, of Blair, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Interment will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.

Mary Lou Kuehn was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Anita, Iowa, to Fred and Alma Pearl (Gissible) Kuehn.

On Aug. 21, 1943, she married Gahlon Goon at Fort Campbell, Ky.

She taught school for 39 years, beginning in a country school and then for the Adair-Casey school district until her retirement in 1989.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Anita and various other organizations.

She loved flowers and enjoyed working in her flower beds, gardening, cooking, baking, sports, watching and feeding birds and especially spending time with her family and friends.

She lived most of her life in Anita, until moving to Blair in 2008 to be close to her daughter, Lana.

She is survived by her two daughters: Linda (Charles) South Lewis, Iowa, and Lana (Gary) Hiller Allen of Blair; six grandchildren: James (Marita) Hiller, Daniel Hiller, Mark Hiller, Tammy Gibson, Tracy (Matt) Schumacher and Jason Andersen; stepgrandson Jeff Allen; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gahlon; brother Russell Kuehn (killed in action in World War II); son-in-law David Hiller; and beloved Boston terrier, Lacy.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair was in charge of arrangements.
