A native of Oconee County, she was a lifelong member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in which she was a choir member for 67 years. She received a BS in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. After graduation she taught at Tamassee DAR School, Keowee High School and Westminster High School. She then obtained a Masters of Library Science at Western Carolina University and was a librarian at Utica Elementary and Northside Elementary schools. She was the founder of Golden Corner Credit Union and served as its manager after her retirement. She later obtained her brokers license in real estate and served as broker in charge at Foxwood Hills. During this time she was also involved in sales of Chambre' Cosmetics from her home. Other interests included: active membership in the Democratic Party of Oconee County and leader of a Weight Watchers group in Walhalla. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and an avid bridge player.
She was the wife of the late Hubert Esmond Cashin and daughter of the late Arthur Brown and Grace Prince Brown.
Surviving are a son, James Arthur Cashin and wife Tara of Mountain Rest; a daughter, Cheryl Cashin Certain of Walhalla; a brother, Eugene Brown of Seneca; a sister, Joanne Brown Summey of Woodruff; six grandchildren, Hope McDowell, Stefanie McDowell, Tyler Cashin, Ashley Cashin, Andrew Cashin, and Vivian Cashin; and three great grandchildren, Melody Harden, Chase Alexander, and Kayce Alexander.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Arthur Brown, Jr., George Prince Brown, and William Jerry Brown; and sister, Elva Brown.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 10, 2014 at St. Luke Methodist Church with burial in Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Davenport Funeral Home.
