HIRAM L. PROUGH
Hiram L. Prough, 88, of 1617 Franklin street, died at 5:20 a.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth hospital, where he had been a patient since last Thursday.
Born in Delphi, he first married Rosetta Fleming who died in 1932. Following her death, he married Lilah Demerly in 1936. He was a member of Eagles lodge No. 347.
In the early 1900's he earned the distinction of driving the first omnibus in the city, carrying hotel patrons from the St. Nicholas hotel to the Big Four station, a task he performed until 1910 when he joined the Lafayette police force. In 1917 he left the force to become a detective on the Monon railroad. He retired 25 years ago.
Surviving are the widow and a son by his first marriage, James F. Prough, of Battle Ground.
