W.L. Coleman, age 84, of McCalla, AL passed away Monday, February 3, 2014. Bud was a businessman and entrepreneur his entire adult life, with his father he developed Coleman Lakes in McCalla. After the death of his father he sold that business and with a partner he soon began a new development that he named Rock Mountain Lakes. Before the last of that land was either sold or donated to area churches and RMLLA, he had already opened a printing business and a video rental store in Bessemer. The video operation eventually grew to one of the largest video rental chains in the United States. After the sale of that chain, he still wasn't ready to leave the business world. He saw opportunity on the Alabama Gulf Coast and invested heavily in rental property. He became personal friends with the developers of Brett-Robinson and he was at the top of their list before ground was broken for the new Phoenix. Bud was on the steering committee of the future development of the First Baptist Church of Rock Mountain Lakes whish became the Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist Church that we know today.
Buds family would like to give special thanks to Prescilla Wilson, and Danna Ledbetter of Synergy Home Care and Hospices Services of Alabama. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Rock Mountain Lakes Baptist Church with burial in Patton Chapel Cemetery. Jason Dollar will be officiating.
