Harlan E. "Jake" Bartlett passed away peacefully at his winter home in Phoenix, Arizona on December 9th, 2011 at the age of eight-four.
Jake was a life long resident of Edwardsville. He attended Edwardsville High School and then joined the Merchant Marine where he served in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he became a carpenter and owner of Ace Hardware store on Main Street. He later became a locksmith and co-owner of the Mechanics Planning Mill in Edwardsville, from which he retired. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Edwardsville Optimist Club and President of the Downtown Merchants' Association. He was also a member of The Edwardsville Gun Club and Sunset Hills Country Club.
He leaves behind his wife, two sons, a daughter, and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father, Harlan E. Bartlett, Sr.; his mother, Gladys (Hotz) Bartlett; one brother, Robert Bartlett; one sister, Mary (Bartlett) Woods; and a stepson, Robert Legate. He was also preceded in death by two wives, Mary Frances (Kelleher) Bartlett and Jacqueline (Joehl) Bartlett.
As per his wishes, Jake was cremated & laid to rest at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville.
