Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. He was a member of the United States Olympic Swimming team at the 1948 Summer Olympic Games in London, England. He won two Gold Medals in the games, one in the 400 meter Freestyle, and one as a member of the 4×200 meter Freestyle Relay. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1966.
