J. A. Seitz died at his home, 3 Orchard St., Cos Cob, after a long illness early this morning, in his 86th year. The deceased was well known having been a member of the community Council and having served on various welfare and promotion committees of the organization. He was born at Melmore, Ohio on March 27, 1937 and later matriculated at Oberlin College. After a number of years of college work he became a doctor of medicine and practice for a number of years in his native state. During 1867 he entered the ministry and preached in Universalist churches in Ohio, later coming east, where he held pastorates in New York, Harlem and Norway, Maine. He took up the newspaper work at Norway where he established the first paper in that town. After severing his connection with the Norway paper, he settled down at North Conway, New Hampshire where he established the White Mountain News. 25 years ago he retired and settled in Cos Cob, where he had resided since. During his residence here he wrote and published a number of books and poems. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Seitz, and his only son, Don Seitz, of the New York World. The funeral services will be held at the late home at Orchard Street and the interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Brooklyn. - Stamford Connecticut advocate, September 30, 1922.
