Katheranna "Katie" Compton Prinzbach, 67 years young, passed away after her valiant fight with cancer on Monday, January 27, 2014, in her home at Moneta, VA. Her strong will to live, faith, love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters carried her through. Katie was born on July 8, 1946 to the late O.D. "Bus" Compton and Mary Elizabeth Malcolm Compton. She was born in Amigo, WV and moved to Princeton, WV in 1948. Katie graduated from Princeton High School in 1964 and earned an Associate Degree from Greenbrier Women's College, Lewisburg, WV in 1966. Katie and Don have been sweethearts since the age of 15 and were married for 47 wonderful years. Throughout the years of 1966 and 1971 they were on a journey through various states and returned to Princeton, WV in 1971. In 2001, they moved to Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, VA where they have always considered "home away from home." Throughout her life she was actively involved with her church, community and charity work. Katie truly felt that the love of family is life's greatest blessing. She touched all those around her with her genuine love, compassion, selflessness, loyalty and thoughtful ways and will never be forgotten. She taught her family what the true meaning of family is, and that unwavering bond will carry us throughout our lifetime. Katie was survived by her husband, Don and three daughters: Beth and husband Jeff Doak, Cindy and husband Michael Sullivan, Heather Miller and five grandchildren: Jeffery and Reagan Doak, Ryan Barber, and Jackson and Samantha Sullivan. Katie was the baby sister of Dr. Delone Compton and wife, Dorthea, Burl Compton and wife Joan, L.M. "Skip" Compton and wife, Gayle, Judi Compton, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Milton C. "Mick" Compton. We are very grateful for the thoughts, prayers and support of our family, friends, doctors, and nurses that comforted us throughout. We could not be more blessed, and words cannot express how appreciative we are. Everyone's love for her is extremely evident. Services to celebrate the life of Katie Prinzbach will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 31, 2014, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor David Lord officiating. Her final resting place will be at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family Friday from 11:30 AM until the service hour at the funeral home. Katie respectfully requested in lieu of flowers, donations go to the Wounded Warriors Project, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or Bethlehem United Methodist Church in her honor. The Prinzbach family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
