Dr. Kolodny earned his medical degree in 1941 from the University of Virginia. He completed his internship at South Baltimore General Hospital and his residency with the Army Arthritis Center. Dr. Kolodny was a Captain in the Army Medical Corps when he volunteered to serve in Burma with the U.S. Army Rangers 5307th Composite Unit Provisional - later known as Merrill's Marauders. Dr. Kolodny was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation and a Bronze Star. He and his fellow soldiers' adventures were recounted in numerous books and articles, as well as the 1962 film "Merrill's Marauders," with Andrew Duggan portraying him. After his discharge from the Army in 1947 with the rank of Major, Dr. Kolodny began his medical career in Baltimore. He served as Chief of Rheumatology at the former North Charles Hospital from 1951 to 1990, and was co-chief of rheumatology at Franklin Square Hospital from 1970 to 1995. He retired in 1999.
Dr. Kolodny is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, five granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.
