Arthur McDowell, 93, of Grinnell died of a heart ailment Friday at Mayflower Home Health Care Center. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Friends Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
Mr. McDowell, a lifelong Grinnell resident, had owned McDowell Insurance Agency and was secretary-treasurer of the Poweshiek County Mutual Insurance Association many years. He was a member of Kiwanis, Herman Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Royal Arch Masons, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Scottish Rite Consistory and the board of directors at both Grinnell State Bank and Grinnell Federal Savings Bank.
Survivors include a son, Raymond of Eldora; a daughter, Carolyn Haywood of Conrad; a sister, Helen Northup of Gardena, Calif.; a half-brother, Kenneth of Mead, Okla.; a half-sister, Lucile White of Branson, Mo.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after noon Monday at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, where a Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.
