In 1959, he with the Tisch brothers bought a controlling interest in Loews Theatres, Corporation, a real estate-rich theater chain. The Loews Corporation is now one of the largest diversified financial corporations in the United States. He served as Postmaster General of the United States from August 1986 to March 1988. In February 1991, he purchased a 50% interest in the New York Football Giants and assumed the position of Chairman & Co-Chief Executive Officer of the organization. He is also a member of the National Football League's Finance Committee. From 1990 to 1993, he served as Chairman of the New York City Partnership, Incorporated and the New York Chamber of Commerce and Industry. On the Forbes list of the 400 wealthiest Americans in 2005 at 3.9 billion dollars, he is ranked in the captains of finance and industry by personality rather than net worth.
