Mrs. Nellie Pearl Atkinson of Opdyke died at 7:50 a.m. on May 7, 1960 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was 72 years, four months, and 16 days old. Mrs. Atkinson was born January 21, 1888 in Jefferson County, the daughter of Prince Albert Gowler and Cora Elizabeth (Davis) Gowler. On June 3, 1908, in Jefferson County, she was married to Oral Grover "O. G." Atkinson, who survived her. Other survivors included two sons, Milburn M. Atkinson of Indianola, Illinois, and Howard Atkinson of Denver, Colorado; eight brothers, Clarence Gowler, Walter Gowler and Fay Gowler of Mount Vernon, Illinois; Lawrence Gowler of Weldon, Illinois; Earl Gowler and Nelson Gowler of Opdyke, Illinois; Troy Gowler of Bluford, Illinois; and Rufus Gowler of Tuscola, Illinois; a sister, Mrs. Dollie Scott of Mount Vernon, Illinois; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. Mrs. Atkinson was a member of the Church of Christ.
