Jimmie R. "Poppa" Isgrigg, age 77, lifelong resident of Joplin, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at his home with family at his side after a short illness.
Jimmie was born October 4, 1933 in Joplin, son of the late Luther Isgrigg and Bernice Little Isgrigg. He graduated from Joplin High School, and attended Missouri Southern State University. He worked at Campbell 66 for some time before beginning his career with Farmer's Chemical Company where he worked for over 42 years as an accountant before retiring. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Joplin, and the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine in Springfield. He was baptized into the Christian Church. He also served in the United States Army.
Jimmie loved his family, friends, and his pets, Max and Bear. He was an avid St. Louis and Webb City Cardinals fan. He loved to work outside in his yard. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, his beautiful smile, and his contagious laugh.
In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by two brothers, Billie Isgrigg and Howard Isgrigg, and a grandchild, Morgan Baker.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara Gayler Isgrigg, whom he married December 25, 1956; two daughters, Lisa Baker and husband Chris of Webb City, Missouri, and Leslie Jones and husband Mike of Neosho, Missouri; a sister, Mary Watts of Joplin; grandchildren, Josh Jones and Carolyn, Austin Jones and wife Jordan, McKenzie Baker Taylor and husband Addison, Meredith Baker, and Landon Baker; great-grandchildren, Jaida Jones, Joe Taylor, and Braden Murphy.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jack Jones and Rev. Doug Lawson officiating. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary following the service. Cremation will follow the service by Parker Mortuary.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. John's Hospice, or to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
