Mrs. Edna Mae Battle, age 90, Rome, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014, at a local healthcare facility.
Mrs. Battle was born in Gordon County, Georgia on May 20, 1923, daughter of the late John Melvin Blankenship and the late Sarah "Sadie" Autry Blankenship. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Miriam Blankenship, and by 3 brothers, Raymond Blankenship, Randall Blankenship, and Melvin Blankenship. Mrs. Battle was a member of the Plainville United Methodist Church. She worked for Battey State Hospital during World War II and prior to retirement, she worked for Floyd County as the Director of the Indigent Care Program.
Survivors include her husband, James Harry Battle, to whom she was married on February 14, 1953; a son Dallas Battle, and his wife, Sherry, Armuchee; 3 grandchildren, Jeremy Battle, Summerville, Matt Battle, Armuchee, and Audrey Battle, West Haven, Utah; 2 step-grandchildren, Dana Kelley, Rockmart and Thomas Abrams, Atlanta; 4 great grandchildren, Kinsey Battle, Bailey Battle, and Briley Battle, all of Summerville, and Mary Battle, Armuchee.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014, at 2pm at the graveside at Morning View Cemetery. The Rev. Carl Alexander will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Monday from 11:30am until 1:30pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at each of their respective residences.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Monday at 1pm and include: Dallas Battle, Jeremy Battle, Matt Battle, Thomas Abrams, Bob Cochran, and David Archer.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.
