She was born in November 1836 as Geertrui Anker in the village of Stolwijk, house number 5, in the eastern part of the Dutch southwestern province Zuid-Holland, daughter of Willem Anker and Willemijntje van Dam and a twin sister of Neeltje Anker. Her birth was declared at the town hall at Stolwijk by her 70 years aged grandfather and farmer (bouwman) Arij Anker Klaaszoon.

The family Anker emigrated in 1848 to the USA.

In 1870 Gertrude Anker (30 y, born in Holland), her father William Anker (72, Holland, farmer), her mother Wilemenka (70, Holland), her brothers William Anker (42, Holland), Cornelius (32, Holland) and Peter (26, Holland) lived at an own home, worth $12000 [!] in the Dutch truck farmers setttlement South Holland, just south of Chicago, Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois.

Geertrui Anker married on 10 April 1882 in Cook County, Illinois at the age of 45 years to the ten years younger Arie Van Dam, who was born in Stolwijk too.

In June 1900 Gertrueid (63 y, born in November 1837 in Holland, immigrated in 1848) and her husband Arie Vandam (54, June 1846, Holland, immigrated in 1873, farmer) lived at an own home in the Dutch truck farmers settlement South Holland, just south of Chicago, Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois.

In 1910 Gertie (73, immigrated in 1850) and her husband Arie Vandam (64, immigrated in 1876) lived still in Thornton [Township], Cook County, Illinois.

In 1920 Gertrude (83, immigrated in 1851) and her husband Arie Vandam (73, immigrated in 1873) lived still in Thornton [Township], Cook County, Illinois.

Gertrude Van Dam died in June 1920 in South Holland, Cook County, Illinois at the age of 83 years. Her husband and retired farmer Arie Van Dam died in November 1921 also in South Holland, at the age of 74 years.

Arie and Gertrude didn't have children.
