Actor. He is recognized as an American motion picture actor, mainly in the silent film era. Born Arthur Taylor Goetze to English immigrants, he was usually a supporting character actor except for the 1928 film "The Farmer's Daughter." After appearing in a couple of silent short films, his debut was in 1926 In "Miss Nobody." "Fox Movietone Follies of 1929" was his first talkie film and his popularity decreased with the talkies. He was known for" Burning Daylight" in 1928 and both in 1930, "The Vagabond King" and "On the Level." A few of his films have been lost to time, becoming dust in their storage containers. At 5'7", he dressed like a child-like clown character in heavy makeup for his comedies for Hal Roach. During his brief career, he would appear in over 50 films, and numerous shorts. His last film was "Go Chase Yourself" in 1938. In 1920 he was with his wife Marion and two-year-old son Jack, touring with an opera group. Besides being an actor, he was a former vaudevillian and became a makeup artist for 1937 films. In 1927, he married the much younger Dorothy Westmore of the Hollywood family of makeup artists. She died in 1931 suddenly after an operation. He is buried next to his wife, Dorothy. He has been confused with another actor named Arthur Stone, who made films in the 1940s and 1950s.
