Venis Eugene Lewis, 91, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully on January 13, 2014 at St. Francis Heart Center. He was born on May 25, 1922 in Belle Union, Indiana to the late Floris and Edith Lewis. He graduated from Belle Union High School in 1941. He served in the United State Navy during World War II on the supply ship, U.S.S. Lesuth, in the Pacific from 1942-1945. After the war, he was employed at Naval Avionics for 33 years. He attended New Bethel Baptist Church for 55 years. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and his many years in Sarasota, FL during his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances (Poland); his daughters, Beverly Bush (Jim) and Pamela Lewis; his brother; Robert Lewis; and sister, Mary Weatherman.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 16 from 4-6 p.m. at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Stirling Ger ber Chapel , 5950 East Thompson Road, Indianapolis IN 46237. The funeral will be at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m.. Burial will be at Orchard Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to New Bethel Baptist Church.
