He was born in April 1881 as Arie Hillegonds in the country village Sint Maarten (which means: Saint Martin) in the northwestern part of the Dutch western province Noord-Holland, the second child and first son of laborer Jacob Hillegonds and Guurtje Eriks.

Arie's sisters Marijtje and Guurtje were also born in Sint Maarten, on 25 August 1878 and 7 November 1879.

The family of the 0 years aged A Hillegond arrived in 1881 on the ship Louisa Price at the port of New York, USA and settled in Chicago, Illinois, where the children Annie (May 1884), John (June 1889), Peter (December 1890) and Gerrit (May 1892) were born.

His mother Guurtje Eriks died in March 1895 at the age of 38 years, very probably in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Source of her death date: Pieter Schager, e-mail December 2014.

His father Jacob Hillegonds remarried on 25 November 1896, very likely in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois to the 12 years younger Christiana Van Driel, since April 1894 widow of Andries (Andrew) Brink. Source of marriage date: Pieter Schager, e-mail December 2014. In March 1898 Jacob and Christina Hillegonds had in Chicago son Jacob Hillegonds, thus a half-brother of Arie.

In June 1900 Arie (19 y, born in April 1881 in Holland, iron roller), his father Jacob Hillegonds (46, August 1853, Holland, labor foreman), his stepmother Christiana (34, June 1865, Holland), his (step)siblings Gertie (20, November 1879, Holland, servant), Annie (16, May 1884, Illinois), John (11, June 1889, Illinois), Leendert [Blink] (9, August 1890, Illinois), Peter (9, December 1890, Illinois), Gerrit (8, May 1892, Illinois), Henry [Blink] (7, May 1893, Illinois), Andrew [Blink] (5, September 1894, Illinois) and Jacob (2, March 1898, Illinois) lived at an own home at Wabash Avenue in Hyde Park Township, Ward 34 of south Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In 1910 Harry Hillegonds (29, Holland, immigrated in 1881), his wife Maggie (27, Illinois), their children Florence (4, Illinois), Jacob (1, Illinois) and his brother John Hillegonds (21, Illinois), lived in Ward 33 of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. His brother John died in June 1916 in Chicago at the age of about 27 years.

On 12 September 1918 the 37 years aged employed truck driver Harry Jacob Hillegonds was living at 311 W. 110 St in Chicago, when he was administrated on a World War I Selection Draft Registration Card.

In 1920 Harry Hillegonds (38, immigrated in 1883), his wife Magereth (37), their children Florence (14), Jacob (11), Gertrude (7, Illinois), Christofer (4, Illinois), John (2, Illinois) and Henry (0, Illinois) were living at an own home in Ward 9 of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In 1930 Harry Hillegond (48, immigrated in 1888 [!?]), his wife Margaret (47), their children Florence (24), Jacob (21), Gertrude (17), Christopher (15), John (12), Henry (10), Marjorie (7, Illinois), Harry (4, Illinois) and Clara Ann (1, Illinois) were still living in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In April 1940 Harry J Hillegonds (59, salesman at [an own] whosesale vegetables production), his wife Margaret (57), their children Christopher (24, salesman at [an own] whosesale vegetables production), Henry (20, salesman at [an own] whosesale vegetables production), Marjorie (17,), Harry (14), Claranne (11) were living at an own home, worth #3500, at 311 West 110 Street in Ward 9 of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. They lived in 1935 at the same house.

In 1942 the 61 years aged Harry Jacob Hillegonds lived (still) at 311 W. 110 St in Chicago, owning a Wholesale Fruit Business at Michigan [Avenue] in Chicago, when he was administrated on a World War II Selection Draft Registration Card.

Produce seller Harry J. Hilligonds, husband of Margaret, died in November 1942 at the age of 61 years in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. His widow Margaret died there too in July 1961 at the age of 78 years.
They were buried next to each other in Evergreen Cemetery, 90th Kedgil, Cook County, Illinois.
