Funeral for Rocky High Bear age 21 of Eagle Butte, SD will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 21, 2005 at the H.V. Johnston Cultural Center in Eagle Butte, SD. Father Jeffry Barnes and Deacon Dora Bruguier will be officiating. Burial will be in the United Church of Christ Cemetery in Cherry Creek, SD under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. There will be an all night wake service starting at 7:00 PM on Sunday at the Cultural Center in Eagle Butte, SD. Family and friends will gather at the four mile junction at 4:30 PM on Sunday to follow in procession. Rocky passed away on November 13, 2005 at the University of Colorado Hospital due to injuries received from a house fire on September 14, 2005 in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
Rocky High Bear was born on September 16, 1984 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Clifford High Bear, Jr. and Elizabeth Tail. Rocky was raised by his special Unci (Grandmother) Sandra High Bear since he was born. He attended school at CEB schools. He was active in sports-cross country and basketball, in which he received numerous medals and plaques.
He is survived by his special friend, Amber Adele and his two children, Amorette and Andrew Ray High Bear of Eagle Butte, SD; his mother, Liz Tail, sister Roxy High Bear, and brothers, Ronnie and Ryan all of Porcupine, South Dakota; aunt, Coral Hernandez of Iowa; uncles, Conroy (Lana) High Bear, Lawrence (Val) High Bear of Watertown, SD, Robbie High Bear of Eagle Butte, SD, and William High Bear of Eagle Butte, SD; grandfathers, Clifford High Bear, Sr. and Berdell (Dolly) Blue Arm all of Eagle Butte, SD; grandmothers, Brenda Two Shields family of Eagle Butte, SD, Lola Lamonte family of Minneapolis, Edward (Midge) High Bear of Rapid City, SD, and Leonard (Laura) High Bear of Eagle Butte, SD; great grandfather, Richard High Bear of Eagle Butte, SD; and great grandmother, Melda (Melvin) Garreau of Eagle Butte, SD.
Rocky was preceded in death by his Mom (Grandma) Sandra, his father Clifford High Bear, Jr., and numerous friends and relatives.
Casketbearers will be Shawn Condon, Dion Blue Earth, Martin Chasing Hawk, Robin Iron Lightning, Bruno Conoyer, Anthony Collins, Sr., John Chavez, Abram Bruguier, Sirjio Blue Arm and Keyton Warwick.
