Edith's father Edwin C. Ewing died in 1867 leaving his wife Letitia (Hill) Ewing alone with daughter Edith.

Letitia is found at Keifer & Isabelle Croco's house in 1870 with Edith. By 1880, Edith has taken the Croco name and is now with Keifer Croco and Isabelle Todd. Letitia remarried and had two sons with her new husband, Benjamin Ewing--Edwin's cousin.

Edith married William Thomas Courtwright in 1886 and moved to Kansas near where her mother Letitia and Benjamin also lived.
