Died.
Grandma Mettes, as she was lovingly called, after a lingering illness peacefully passed away at 1 o'clock on Monday morning, August 22, 1904. She was 79 years old. If she had lived until October 12 she would have been 80 years old, She was married fifty-two years. It will be remembered grandpa and grandma celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago last April. Deceased was a resident of Jackson township the past thirtyseven (sic) years, having traveled with her husband and children in a mover's wagon from Michigan to Macon county. They settled on the farm where she has resided ever since until it pleased our Heavenly Father to call her to her reward. The remains were taken to Macon on Tuesday and to the church she always loved so well and visited so often during life. There the funeral sermon and a requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Healy, after which the remains were taken to the Catholic cemetery and there amidst a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends all that was mortal of grandma was laid to rest to await the resurrection morn.
Dearest grandma thou hast left us,
Here thy loss we deeply feel,
But it is God who has bereft as,
He can all our sorrows heal.
Friendship and love have done their last,
And now can do no more ;
The bitterness of death is past,
And all thy sufferings o'er.
