Mrs. Lela Lovina York Freeman, age 87, of Lindale, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at a Cartersville hospital.
Mrs. Freeman was born in Cherokee County, Alabama, on September 28, 1926, daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson York and the late Ollie Lee Barnes York. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Coolidge Freeman, on May 24, 2004, by a daughter, Joyce Cain, on January 7, 2014, and by 10 siblings. Mrs. Freeman was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church in Lindale. Prior to retirement, she worked for Lindale Manufacturing Company for over 40 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Geneva Abernathy, and her husband, Leonard, Rome; 2 sons, Carl Freeman, Rome, and Mark Freeman, and his wife, Greta, Cartersville; a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Bowling Bryan, Lindale; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Dr. Jacob King officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 6 until 8pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at each of their respective residences.
Both active and honorary pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday at 1:30pm and include: Active: Kevin Jones, Todd Jones, Phil Cain, Lamont Ivey, and Skye Dorris. Honorary: Mrs. Freeman's other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
