~MY ANCESTOR~
Very little is known of how and when John Sackett came to be in New Haven, but July 1, 1644 John Sackett was administered the Oath of Fidelity by Theophilus Eaton, Gov. of New Haven Colony. In 1646 he was fined for wanting a rest for his rifle.
Vital Records of New Haven, Vol. 1, p. 3
"John Sacket and Agnes Tincome were married by the Governor the 20th of May 1652."
They were the parents of six children, my ancestor being their first son, LIEUT. JOHN SACKETT, Jr. whose tombstone is on the west wall of the Grove St. Cemetery along with the tombstone of his wife, Mary (Wooding) Sackett.
