╔══╗
╚╗╔╝
╔╝(¯`v´¯)
╚══`.¸.my mom so much. She was born in May, 89 years ago in NJ. She had two wonderful parents and one younger brother (My favorite Uncle). She lost her mother way too early. Calvin Coolidge was president, a loaf of bread cost only 9 cents and gas was 21 cents a gallon. She graduated high school in 1941 as a member of the National Honor Society. She became New Jersey State Typing Champion. She enjoyed roller skating as a kid and as an adult. She also enjoyed boating and fishing and was a great water skier.
She met our Dad on the 4th of July in NYC and she says there were always fireworks ever since. After seeing an Army Enlistment Center while out shopping, she joined the Woman's Army Corps in 1944 to serve her country and was sent to Ft. Oglethorpe, GA for her basic training. After basic she went on to Texas for training as a Surgical Technician, then served her duty as a corporal in Temple, TX at McCloskey General Hospital.
She got married in March in 1946, and dad was her "war bride" for about a month before she was discharged. When she got out of the service she worked as a bookkeeper and learned tax work. She loved being a "working woman." Having her own business and doing tax work was her favorite job, which she had been doing until in her 70's. She has been a great mother and definitely a "go getter" in everything she has ever wanted to do. She has always loved to travel. She has seen all fifty states, including cruises to Alaska and Hawaii. She has been to twenty different countries, with the Holy Land and the Panama Canal being her favorites. Her favorite foods were Steak and Seafood but most of her life she was vegetarian. Her favorite flower is lilacs her favorite gems are emeralds and her favorite game was Baseball (Go Rays) Her favorite movie Star was Johnny Cash. One time in her office> she had wall to wall photos of Johnny.
My mom is my hero, always strong, always honest, and was a good friend and wife.
Her best accomplishment, (so she always said) was having three children. She is also the grandmother of three and a great-grandmother of two.
When our father died over twenty years ago she was scared and "lost" for one of the first times in her life. But it didn't last long. It couldn't with her wonderful spirit and zest for life! She grabbed hold of her life again and all of the challenges that went with it. First dealing with the "no name storm" that flooded her home on the river. Then on to buying cars, moving. She continued to take each problem one day at a time. On her 70th birthday, she was brave enough to get in a hot air balloon which did a "splash and dash" on the lake. Fear has never kept her from doing anything she ever wanted to do. She was involved with many organizations in her life from church, Elks, and the American legion. She has been a blessing to everyone she ever was in contact with. She has dealt with many health issues that changed her life dramatically over the past ten years and also dealt with the loss of her son last year > but even then, held on to her faith, her prayers and her love for her family and friends. I am glad she is getting her reward now for being one awesome lady > my mom. 1924 ~ 2014

Poem my mom wrote in the Army.

My Mom wrote this poem when she was a W.A.C. Surgical Technician during World War II.

Texas

'Twas once that I was happy
My life was filled with cheer
I never had seen Texas
'Til the Army brought me here.

Deep in the Heart of Texas
There is sand in all we eat
The girls are all bow-legged
The boys all have flat feet.

That's why they have to send us here
To sit in sad dejection
Out on this lonely desert
For this darn state's protection.

Down here the sun is hotter
Down here the rain is wetter
They think that it's the best state
But there are 47 better.

Still, there is no one to blame but me
The Army never forgot it
I asked for foreign service,
And, believe me, by God, I got it!
