Gayle Lynn Howington, 77, of Calipatria passed away of natural causes Tuesday, April 10 at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley.
Gayle was born in Comanche, Texas on Feb. 6, 1930 to Grace and Frank Howington. In 1944 his family moved to Calipatria, California. He graduated from Calipatria High School in 1949. Gayle served with the 3rd Infantry in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart in 1951. He married Barbara Baretta on Oct. 14, 1956 at Sacred Heart Church in Brawley. He owned a barber shop in Calipatria until the late 1960s, when he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in April of 1994 after 27 years.
A memorial services will be held at 142 West Elder in Calipatria on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. All friends are welcome. Services and interment will be in Indian Gap, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Barbara; his granddaughter Stephanie Howington; parents Frank and Grace and brothers; Donald, Judge, Norman, Benton, Herman and Doyle.
Survivors include his children, Scott and Barbie, Martin and Cheryl and Ronnie; grandchildren, Ashton, Aaron, Misty and Nicole Howington; numerous nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice.
