His mother Guurtje Eriks died in March 1895 at the age of 38 years, very probably in Chicago. His Dutch father Jacob Hillegonds remarried on 25 November 1896, very likely in Chicago, the 12 years younger Christiana Van Driel, since April 1894 widow of Andries (Andrew) Brink. In March 1898 Jacob and Christina Hillegonds had in Chicago son Jacob Hillegonds, thus a half-brother of Gerrit.
In June 1900 Peter Hillegonds (9 y, born in December 1890 in Illinois), his father Jacob Hillegonds (46, Aug 1853, Holland, labor foreman), his stepmother Christiana (34, June 1865, Holland), his (step)siblings Gertie Hillegonds (20, November 1879, Holland, servant), Arie (19, April 1881, Holland, iron roller), Annie (16, May 1884, Illinois), John (11, June 1889, Illinois), Leendert [Blink] (9, August 1890, Illinois), Gerrit (8, May 1892, Illinois), Henry [Blink] (7, May 1893, Illinois), Andrew [Blink] (5, September 1894, Illinois) and his half-brother Jacob [Jr] (2, March 1898) lived at an own home at Wabash Avenue in Hyde Park Township, Ward 34 of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.
In 1910 Gerhard (17), his father Jacob Hillegonds (57), his mother Christina (45), his (step)siblings Leonard B[link] Hillegonds (19), Henry B[link] (16), Andrew [Blink] (15), Jacob H[illegonds] (12) and Kate (7, Indiana) lived in the town or township of St. John, about seven miles south of Munster and Highland, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana.
Gerrit and Verna Hillegonds had on 9 October 1914 son Clarence, in the city of Dubuque, located along the Mississippi River in the utter east of Iowa and at the junction of the three states Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin, a region locally known as the Tri-State Area Iowa.
On 5 June 1917 the 25 years aged stationary fireman Gerrit Jacob Hillegonds lived with his wife and a 2,5 years aged child at 508 Cleveland Ave in Dubuque City, Dubuque County, Iowa, when he was administrated on a World War I Draft Registration Card.
In 1920 Gerrit Hillegonds (27, Illinois), his wife Verna (34, Indiana) and their son Clarence (5, Iowa) lived in Ward 4 of Dubuque, Iowa.
On 14 May 1921 Gerrit J Hillegonds and Verna Brewer had in Dubuque, Dubuque County, Iowa daughter Edith.
In April 1940 Gerrit Hillegonds (47, working at the meter service of an electric company), his wife Verna (54) and their daughter Edith (18, Iowa) lived at an own home, worth $2000, at Main Street in Glenwood, Bloom Township, south of Thornton Township and Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. They lived in 1935 at the same house. Two houses further on their son Clarence (25, Iowa, teacher at a public school) lived with his wife Helen (20, Minnesota) at a rented home.
In 1942 Gerrit Jacob Hillegonds was still living in Glenwood and working at the Public Service of Harvey Town, when he was administrated on a World War II Draft Registration Card.
His wife Verna Jessie Hillegonds died in June 1981 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas at the age of 95 years. Gerrit Jacob Hillegonds died in December 1983 in Dallas too, at the age of 91 years. His last place of residence was Garland, Dallas County, Texas.
