Born March 4, 1932, in Sylvester, James was a son of the late Jess and Zora (Swindle) Middleton. He was a lifelong resident of Jones County. He attended school in Nugent and Lueders. He married Emma Lee Keesee in 1951 at Fort Phantom Hill. James worked in the oil field and was a Baptist.
James was preceded in death by one sister (La Faye Burkman).
James is survived by his wife, Emma Middleton of Hawley; five children, Janice Blackerby (and husband, Vinson) of Canyon, James Mike Middleton of Hawley, Janie Benson (and husband, Brad) of Clyde, Kathie Pearson (and husband, Glen) of Stamford and Jeral Middleton (and wife, Kathy) of Hawley; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
