The Peterman family originated in Holland and came to the Toronto area of Ontario, via Pennsylvania, in the early mid 1800s.

The John Edmund Peterman family came west to Moose Jaw beginning in 1905 and then onto homestead in the Mawer district in 1907. John Edmund Peterman (1855-1937).

Born in York County, Ontario on Nov 11 1855. Married Martha Strassler on Nov 26, 1882. Their family were all born in York County; John Henry, Joseph Walter, George Rosco, James Albert, Milton Roy, Louis Edmund and Susan Edna.

John Peterman homesteaded approximately 3 miles south of Mawer, where he farmed until he retired . He continued living on the farm until his death on Jan 11, 1937. John Peterman's funeral was conducted in the Mawer United Church, Internment was in Rosedale Cemetery in Moose Jaw.

Martha Strassler (1860 1938). Father was George Edmund Strassler. Born in Zepher, Ont April 4, 1860. Died at home Jul 14, 1938 Funeral service at farm home. Internment was in Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw.

Susan Edna Peterman (1897- ) Born in Sharon, Ontario on Feb 13, 1897. Married Edward Monroe Mar 16, 1914. Family: Elvina Gertrude (Feb 2, 1915); Verdun Winston (Apr 11, 1916 to Jun 29, 1966) and Lorena Pearl (May 4, 1918) Susan came west with her parents to Mawer. After her marriage she and Ed farmed at Mawer until Ed joined the Army in the 1st World War. Following the war, they moved to Syracuse, New York in 1919 and to Rhinebeck, New York in 1930. Their children are all married with children in the USA.
