The first known record of the Hitzing family in America is the census taken 03SEP1850 in ward 10, Hamilton County, Ohio (photo attached). It listed William (Wilhelm Hitzing I), age 34; Frederika Hitzing, age 36; William (Wilhelm Hitzing II), age 9; Wilhelmina (Minnie) Hitzing, age 4; and Charles M. Hitzing, age 2. In 1856, their fourth child, Mary S. Fallis, was born in Cincinnati, OH. The census taken 09JUN1870 in Sycamore Township (Hamilton County) Ohio lists Charles M. Hitzing, age 22, working as a laborer on the farm of Peter Westcott and his family. That census states Charles was born in BADEN, GERMANY. Based on the above info, these 5 "Original American Hitzings" immigrated from Baden, Germany after Charles' birth in 1848 and before the 03SEP1850 census.
