On Saturday, April 9, 2011, Carl A. Morrison passed peacefully into his Savior's care at the age of 91. Born February 11, 1920 in Eagle, Idaho to James A. and Rita Morrison, Carl was the third of four children. Carl attended Gem State Academy. Carl is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beverly; son, Rod Morrison of Juneau, Alaska; daughter, Kathy and son-in-law, William Lovin DC of Albuquerque, N.M.; and brother, Charles Morrison of Tonasket, Wash. Carl was preceded in death by his son, Jan Kendall Morrison in 1947; brother, James of Boise, Idaho; sister, Evelyn Vial of Charleston, W.V.; and a grandson, Rodney of Juneau, Alaska. Carl was adored by his five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. At the age of 19, Carl and brother, Charles opened a bakery in Camus, Wash. which was very successful during the strike of all bakers in Portland, Ore. and Vancouver, Wash. When WWII broke out in Europe, Carl enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served with the 369th (FIGHTIN' BITIN) Bombardment Squadron of the 306th Bombardment Group as a B17 pilot, flying 35 missions (12 more than required) in Europe before coming home. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Certificate of Commendation from France for the liberation of Normandy. Carl and Beverly settled in Ephrata, Wash. where he and brother-in-law, Bob Ping, opened an appliance store and soon brought cable television to the state of Washington. Later, Carl and Carl A. Carlson operated the concessions in Sun Lakes Park, Wash. for nearly 30 years. During this time, Carl and Carl built college housing in Ellensburg, Wash. and several projects in Hawaii, including a high-rise in Waikiki and Kona Isle condominiums in Kailua-Kona. He was a land developer in Seattle, Oregon and Nevada as well. Carl retired at 80 years, he and Beverly then came to Sun City-Palm Desert. Carl was active in veterans' groups until his health no longer permitted. A military honors tribute will be held at a future memorial service in Ephrata, Wash. with interment there to follow.
