Mrs. Lems was born in Holland, August 26, 1873, where her girlhood life was spent. She came with her brother to this country when a young girl, and has since made her home in this vicinity. She was united in marriage with B. Lems Oct. 21, 1897. They lived in different places in this vicinity, at Hull, Middleburg, and Doon, until seventeen years ago when Mr. Lems bought the farm where the family now resides near Rock Valley.
Mrs. Lems leaves her husband and nine children, Mrs. L. Vanden Bosch and Mrs. Andrew Van Kekerix of Rock Valley; Mrs. Henry Klenwolterink, Sheldon; Paul Lems, Rock Valley; Bastiaan, Claus, Gerrit and Grace and Hilda at home. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Wm. Kooiker and a brother, Ralph Kooiker near Hull, a brother Henry Kooiker, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and another brother living in Holland.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the home at one o'clock and at the Christian Reformed church in Rock Valley at two o'clock, and the remains were taken to the Valley View cemetery. Rev. Veltman of Sioux Center and Rev. Hanko of Hull officiated at the funeral services.
