Harry Buckles, former Carter Sheriff dies at 80
Harry Buckles, 80, Rt 2 Elizabethton, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 1995, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, after a lengthy illness.
He was a Carter County native and a son of the late Alfred and Abbie Nave Buckles.
Mr Buckles retired in 1976 as sheriff of Carter County after eight years of service He was also a construction worker and farmer .
Mr Buckles was a member of Watauga Masonic Lodge No 622, the York Rite, Holston Council No 101, and Jericho Shrine Temple Kingsport.
He was a World War II Army veteran
Mr Buckles was a disabled veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No 2166 Elizabethton.
He was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church, Elizabethon.
Mr Buckles was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Wylmetta Elliott Buckles; one son Randall Buckles, Elizabethton; one sister, Mrs Kate Williams, Elizabethton; one brother, J.N. Buckles, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Chad Buckles, Abbie Buckles, Allison Buckles, and Hayley Buckles; and several nieces and nephews.
