Nancy was the oldest child of Alfred Beecham Lockhart (b. September 8 1838 Wood County, Virginia (West Virginia) son of John Moore Lockhart, Jr. and Nancy Louise King. Died June 15 1917. Memorial #93102058) and Sarah Ellen Ayers (b. August 31 1840, Ritchie County, Virginia, daughter of Jeremiah Ayers. Died June 10 1906 Wirt County, West Virginia.)
Nancy came from a well known family in the area that had originally settled in Wood county and then Wirt County.
Nancy was educated and was teaching school at age 21 and we assume until her marriage to Charles Marshall Franks (Memorial #37372695) October 17 1888 in Wirt County, West Virginia. Nancy was 30 years old at the time of her marriage to Charles "Marshall" who was listed as widowed, a boat builder, and age 35. Marriage record: "West Virginia Marriages, 1853-1970," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FBZN-MYC : accessed 18 Dec 2013), ? M Frank and N C Lockhart, 1888.
Nancy had two children:
Marshall B. Franks born September 1889 East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio
Constance Franks born April 1891, Ohio
According to 1900 Census records, Nancy was married for 3 years, and had two living children. These children were living with their maternal grandparents, Alfred and Sarah Lockhart. Charles Marshall Franks had returned to his dead wife, Barbara, and his first marriage. I have been unable to find a record for divorce from Barbara or Nancy, nor have I been able to locate a second marriage record for Charles Marshall Franks to Barbara.
Nancy was committed to the Second Hospital for the Insane sometime after 1891 if we take the "3" year marriage as indicated in the records. It is believed that she resided there until her death. Records indicate that the Spencer Hospital in Roane County, West Virginia did not accept female patients until 1893 so her whereabouts until then is unknown at this time.
Nancy died on August 9 1934 and was buried on August 15 1934 in the Spencer Cemetery.
On her death record she is listed as Kate Franks, unknown parents, age 80, cause of death Arterio Sclerosis.

This is an ongoing research project, and any information would be greatly appreciated.
