Kaisa Lisa Simula was born in Sodankylä, Finland in 1846 and married Staffan Ahoniemi Simula on 27 Aug 1870. They immigrated to the United States in the 1880s, where they settled in Mohawk, Michigan, in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Her husband Steven (or Steve as he was known in America) died of senility in 1912, leaving her widowed until her own death in 1935. They had two children in Sodankylä:

John Abram Simula b. 28 July 1871
