(bio by Martha Reid 19 UDC) Washington Barnett is the brother of Timothy Barnett.

Timothy was a slave owner according to 1860 U.S. Federal Census for The Creek nation, West of The, Arkansas. He owned 19 slaves and had 3 slaves in trust for David Barnett. His brother Washington owned 4 slaves. There many more slaves owned by other members of the Barnett family. Census record is attached.

Noname referred to him as a Colonel but we have not found documentation of such. His CMSR shows he was a Major.

(special thanks to Noname for the following info) Creek Tibal Leader. Owned a trading post in Wewoka District, Creek Nation, near the present Wetumpka, Oklahoma. Slave owner. Said to be the wealthiest man in the Creek Nation. Married: Mary " Hoketa " Benson. Major 2d Creek Cavalry 1863. Colonels, probably late in the war, to succeed Chilly McIntosh. Barnett's service record in common with the other member of Indian units, is spotty.

Treasurer of the Creek Nation postwar. Killed July 14, 1873, near his Wetumpka home. Barnett had killed a Seminole who'd been seeing his common law wife, and a posse that was taking him to trial murdered him. Buried: at the original Wetumpka Cemetery.
