Charles H. Powles, 76, a former Ellensburg and Cle Elum resident now of Liberty, died at Sorensen Memorial Hospital yesterday morning. A long-time Kittitas County resident, he was born March 31, 1879 in Arkansas.
He came to Kittitas Valley as a small boy in a covered wagon with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Edward Powles, from Colorado. He spent his boyhood years in the Ellensburg area and then moved to Liberty where he lived for a number of years. He later moved to Cle Elum where he was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad for approximately 25 years.
After his retirement he moved back to Liberty where he lived for some time. he was a member of the Moose Lodge. His wife, Olive, preceded him in death 15 years ago.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ina Jordin of Ellensburg and Mrs. Bessie Thomas of Forks; a nephew, Pat Jordin of Ellensburg; two nieces, Mrs. Bernice Cross of Ellensburg and Mrs. Minnetta Edwards of Forks.
Funeral services will be held from the Evenson Chapel, Friday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dan J. Rueb will officiate. Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Cle Elum.
