Mr. Allen Gordon Finley, Jr., age 83, of Wilkesboro, died Friday, December 27, 2013 at Wilkes Senior Village.

A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held Monday 2:00 PM, December 30, 2013 at North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Benton J. Trawick officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church. A private burial will be held prior to the service at Scenic Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Finley was born in Wilkes County on June 16, 1930, to Allen Gordon Finley, Sr. and Annie May Barnes Finley. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Finley was an Eagle Scout in Troop 36 and a scoutmaster for Troop 336. He was also a volunteer firefighter for North Wilkesboro for 35 years. He was a member of Y's Men's Club and former president of the Home Builders' Association. After retiring from home construction and real estate, Mr. Finley became a Presbyterian Lay Minister. He served as pastor for Glendale Springs Presbyterian Church from 2002 until 2007. Mr. Finley was an elder, choir member, and Sunday school teacher at North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and was the founding member of Gideons International Wilkes North Camp. He was active in Habitat for Humanity, served on mission trips to Mexico and was an avid tennis player. He was a member of the Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow recipient.

Mr. Finley was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Elmore Finley, Katherine Finley Blatt and a grandson, Cameron Finley.

Mr. Finley is survived by his wife, Carolina Ferguson Finley of the home; four daughters, Katie Finley Smithey of Wilkesboro, Kendal Finley Privette and Chris of North Wilkesboro, Carol Kyles Finley and Vince Foote of Raleigh, Mary Rebecca Finley of Wilkesboro; two sons, Allen Gordon Finley, III and Jackie of Hickory and Thomas Cameron Finley and Tammy of Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Madeline Finley, Tate Finley, Blair Finley, Parks Smithey, Abby Smithey, Hank Privette, Jack Privette, Zoe Foote, Zane Foote, Kyle Barger.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International Wilkes North Camp, PO Box 1781, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659 or to North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church, 804 E Street, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
