According to his niece, Nancy Loyette Guin Lollar, with whom he shared a very close relationship, "Uncle Louie" served as a fireman with the Columbus Fire Department until retirement. In his last years, he spent most holidays with the Lollar family. He was a lifelong bachelor, but he had a long-term relationship with a neighbor whom he referred to as "Miss Lucille." He was a sweet, quiet, and gentle man.
