Betty was born in Cedar City, Utah to George A. and LaVerd Smith on June 25, 1932. She attended high school in Cedar City until her junior year when her family moved to Salmon, Idaho where she attended and graduated her senior year.
Betty married Paul J. Allen in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on November 20, 1951. A dedicated homemaker and mother of four, Betty served in several church callings giving her time and talents where needed. She was known for her excellent cooking skills, organizational abilities, and a meticulous attention to detail. Betty also became an accomplished chocolatier, having made and given away many boxes of exquisite chocolates over the years to friends and family. She was always willing to lend a hand, give a warm hug, or a kind smile to comfort those in need.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George A. and LaVerd (Brinkerhoff) Smith of Salmon, Idaho, a sister, Jacqueline Warner, a brother, Kent Smith, a daughter, Yvonne Higley, and two great grandchildren, Sophie Renee Ellis, and Everett Paul Taylor.
Survivors include her husband, Paul, a daughter, Pamela (Bill) Ziegler of Blackfoot, two sons, Gary J of Provo, Utah, and Ronn S (Cozzett) Allen of Idaho Falls, 23 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on December 30, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Rose Ward LDS Chapel located at 403 North 150 West, Blackfoot, Idaho. Friends are invited to meet the family for an hour prior to the service in the Relief Society room. Burial will follow at Fielding Memorial Cemetery in Idaho Falls. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.
