Funeral services for the late George L. (Linnie) Loftis, 76, who died at his home, Maryland Drive, Monday afternoon, were held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the Athens Methodist Church. the services were conducted by the Rev. R.S. Marshall, pastor, with interment in the Kerens Cemetery, at Kerens.
Pallbearers were S.A. Carroll, W.R. Morgan, John Dowdy, Henry Rusk, Jack Tindel and D.E. Watt.
Among those from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. C.L. Smith of Orange, a sister of Mrs. Loftis, Mrs. Frank L. Smith and Mrs. Gus Harris, a niece of Mrs. Loftis and also of Orange.

Funeral services for the late George L. Loftis, 76, who died late Monday at his home on Maryland Drive, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Athens Methodist Church.
The services were conducted by the Rev. R.S. Marshall, pastor of the Athens church, and interment was in the Kerens Cemetery at Kerens.
Pallbearers were S.A. Carroll, W.R. Morgan, John Dowdy, Henry Rusk, Jack Tindel and D.E. Watt.
Mr. Loftis was born in Alabama on July 3, 1872, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Loftis, and came to Texas in the fall of 1912. He resided first near Edom in Van Zandt County, and from there went to Brownsboro and later to Tyler. He moved to Athens about nine years ago from the New Hope community.
He had engaged in the produce business and farming in recent years. He had been a member of the Methodist church all of his life and was active in church work, having taught Sunday School classes in several of the churches he attended.
He married Miss Claudia Richards in Alabama in February 1894, later coming to Texas. They had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Athens several years ago.
Survivors include the widow; four sons, M.P. Loftis of Seminole, Oklahoma, W.O. Loftis of Houston, F.L. Loftis of Houston, and Austin Loftis of San Antonio; two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Baxter of Kerens, and Miss Mary Loftis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three brothers, W.P. Loftis of Brookwood, Alabama, J.L. Loftis of DeLeon, and A.L. Loftis of Tyler; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
