Rufus G. "Cooney" Hance, age 84, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013, surrounded by his family. He attended Bridgeport Freewill Baptist Church. Rufus was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife Louise Cashen Hance; parents, Allen William and Allie France Hance; brothers David, Allen Jr., Sanford and Ralph Hance; sisters, Betty Cole and Barbara Burt.
He is survived by his sons, Mike (Penn) Hance, Mark (Kathy) Hance, and Marlon (Lisa) Hance all of Newport; grandchildren, Curtis Hance, Cody Hance, and Macey Hance; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Skylar; sister, Mary Kate Pack of Dandridge; special sister-in-law, Clara Howard; sisters-in-law, Edna Hance, Mary Lee Hance and Ida Cashen. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Rita Hance; special friend, Jennie Worth of Sevierville, his Manes Funeral Home and Arby's Family; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and special friends; and his church family.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, December 27, 2013 at Manes Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm Saturday, December 28, 2013, in Manes Funeral Home Chapel prior to the funeral services at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Hal Kirk and Rev. Tim Carson officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
