Luther played several different guitars including the Fender Telecaster that is pictured. The band was later changed to the Tennessee Three, with the addition of drummer W S Holland. Luther passed away from injuries received in a house fire in August, 1968. Luther’s position as lead guitarist was filled by Bob Wootton who played for John until health problems caused John to retire. Luther was known worldwide as an innovative guitar player who loved his music and his fans. Johnny and June often referred to him as their "goodwill ambassador" Luthers legacy is carried on today through his widow, Margie. She frequently attends Cash gatherings, meets with fans and is always willing to share her wealth of stories of the "early days" (bio by: Tom Fascian)
