Sarah was the daughter of Boston merchant Edward Ashley and his wife Mary Hallowell. She was married in Boston by Rev. Mr. John Webb (Presbyternian) on 16 April 1719 to Nathan Bowen. She and Nathan had nine children together, but she died less than two weeks following the birth of her last child.
While no burial record has been found for Sarah, the record of her death appears in the Marblehead Vital Record, and it is highly likely that she was buried in the Congregational Church cemetery (now Unitarian) where her husband and other members of her family were later buried.
